Although the term Tanar’ri describes an endless variety of Abyssal inhabitants, the term is also interchangeable in many circles with Cambion. A true cambion springs from a union between a powerful tanar’ri father and a planetouched mother - usually a tiefling - and is brought to term within the Abyss, allowing the child to be infused with evil energies and causing it to be born a true Outsider. Many of these beings become spies or assassins for Demon Lords and abyssal warlords, while others master control of the chaotic substance of the abyss and take on more powerful forms.

Natural Armor: A Tanar’ri’s skin is infused with abyssal power, granting a natural armor (stacking) bonus of +1.

Favored Class: Any. When determining whether a multiclass Tanar’ri suffers an XP penalty, his highest-level class does not count.
Level Adjustment +3: Tanar’ri are more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take more experience for a Tanar’ri to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.
